NANI Project

NANI Project

The NiBUCAA Ambassadors NYSC Initiative.

Equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in the fight against HIV.

The NiBUCAA Ambassadors NYSC Initiative (NANI) trains corps members of the National Youth Service Corps as peer educators on sexual and reproductive health. NANI Ambassadors work in local communities in states with the highest HIV burden to increase awareness and share accurate information on HIV. NANI works to reduce new HIV infections, especially amongst adolescents and young people, by improving access to gender-responsive HIV prevention information and services.

The NANI Program is built on the NYSC PETs Project's core concepts, in line with the UNAIDS "Start Free, Stay Free, AIDS-Free" super-fast framework for ending AIDS among children, adolescents and young women by 2020.

The pilot phase of the NANI Project ran in the Federal Capital Territory and Ogun State.  NANI is built on four core pillars of Sensitisation and Awareness, Capacity Building, Community

Sensitisation and Awareness

The NANI holds sensitisation and awareness drives in NYSC orientation camps. The goal is to raise awareness on sexual and reproductive health and the NANI Project.

Capacity Building

The NANI Project trains corps members as HIV peer educators in communities. As part of the project, corps members are trained on leadership, conceptualising and implementing programmes in local communities, adaptive technology for the new normal and leveraging technology and media for development.

Community Outreach and Media Engagement

NANI Ambassadors leverage online and offline channels to provide information on HIV to the communities in which they work. They engage with the communities via short videos, pictures and other information and communication materials.

HIV Testing and Counselling Services

The NANI Project organises HIV counselling and testing services in NYSC camps and local communities. Through this, NANI encourages more young people to know their HIV status as well as take action to stay AIDS-free.
