According to UNAIDS, there were 41,000 new HIV infections amongst young people and adults aged 15 to 49 in 2018. This group is unique in that not only do they make up nearly half of Nigeria's population; they also constitute over 50% of the Nigerian workforce.

Asides from the health implications, HIV/AIDS affects families economically by keeping them in poverty as the family either loses a breadwinner or struggle with the burden of caring for an HIV-positive member.

Businesses are not left out as HIV affects young people who make up the majority of the workforce. Person-hours are lost to sick leave, ensuring that productivity becomes challenging.

It is crucial that we all join hands and take action to end the HIV/AIDS pandemic in this generation!
